Get all OS X beta updates without being a developer

Yosemite-beta-terminal-developer-0

We already know that the preliminary versions of the system manage to improve certain aspects and solve some problems that the previous versions normally suffer, although it is also true that since they are not final versions they may still have bugs to solve, so it is always advisable to stay in the stable version unless a bug in that version does not let you use the system normally.

That is precisely what happened to me with the version of OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 in which it was impossible for me on many occasions to be able to connect normally to the Wi-Fi network on duty with my MacBook Pro Retina, so I decided install one of these betas to see if it solved the problem and it did, however, these versions are not accessible to the average user who do not have a developer account so we will activate this option by means of a simple command by terminal.

The operation is quite simple and it is enough to add a repository to the updates section of the Mac App Store to tell the system to also carry out the search in said repository when it comes to finding updates. To do this, just go to Applications> Terminal and enter this command where we must also insert our administrator password to finish executing it:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL https://swscan.apple.com/content/catalogs/others/index-10.10beta-10.10-10.9-mountainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1 .sucatalog.gz

From that moment on we can have all the beta versions of OS X available without exception, both those of the public beta program like those aimed at developers, in this way we can install any of the versions if ours causes us more problems than necessary. This does not mean that the beta version will automatically solve the problem (perhaps on the contrary, add more) but it never hurts to make a backup and test it as long as we have tried other different ways before.

Good info, I had been thinking for a few days if it was possible to do that. Now the question is whether it is possible to disable this feature. Thank you

I have made a copy of the file as a backup copy with which to remove it is to replace the file with the original and that's it.

From system settings in the App Store option. Turn off developer updates.
