Google is developing the possibility of supporting push notifications natively in its Chrome browser within OS X, in this way the browser will use the native management of the system instead of its own notification system, as has been confirmed with a project developer.

A preview version of this feature can be activated by entering the following line in the navigation bar «about: flags» as stated in a thread on the Chrome support forum. Although it can also be activated in the stable version of Chrome, the version called Canary (Chrome Beta) includes a more current implementation of this function.

There is no indication yet when these native notifications will be available. In fact, Google warns that activating experimental features can potentially cause failures or security issues.

Google's current existing notification system allows websites to send alerts, even when a person has stopped visiting a web page, as long as they have the user's permission. Support for push notifications natively will make it easier for those messages to be located in the OS X notification center and in this way it will automatically respect global system settings, including Do not disturb mode.

Throughout this month Google Chrome has stopped being supported in previous versions of OS X, that is, both Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion are no longer viable options to be able to run the browser completely, that is, although these systems can continue to run the browser, they will not have access to future updates.
