Is it a good time to buy a Mac?

MacBook-Market Share-0

In July and with the payments of some users still hanging around in their pockets, there are several users who ask us about the option of buy a Mac right now or not and if so, they ask us which model to buy.

Well, as we have seen on previous occasions with this same question, the answer will always depend on the need of the user for which he wants to buy the Mac. If we are without a computer and we do not have the option to wait, the answer is to think of the MacBook 12 inches or if you rush us the iMac. In any case, any of the other Macs that they have in Apple stores are the same or better option than these two models, but right now it should go to the background in our options.

The cycle of changes in Macs as in the rest of Apple products and almost everyone knows it and in the case of Macs, the same. For the moment if we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place we can go buy any of the Apple Macs as they will give us the expected performance and benefits, but if it is possible to wait until September October to go for it, much better.

If the decision is to buy a MacBook Pro without hesitation, I would wait for the guys from Cupertino to make a move and more with the rumors we have about the possible OLED screen, the possible thinning of the machine in general and the rest of the internal hardware that we are going to to show. On the other hand, if the machine we are thinking of buying is a MacBook Air, considering saving a little more and going for the 12 ″ MacBook may be a good option.

In the case of iMac Well, I'm sure they add something this year but it wouldn't be a big change if we buy it right now. Mac mini for their part they have to be renewed this year in terms of processors and the correct thing is to wait. The user or professional who has in mind to buy a Mac Pro We can tell you that your business comes first and if you need the machine then go ahead with the purchase, but it is possible that by the end of the year they will also be renewed since they have been since December 2013 without any change.

All this is always seen from a general point of view and we have to be clear that if they present new machines in September or October, they will not be available in Spain at the moment. which would possibly take us until the end of October or the beginning of November to be able to make the purchase and therefore it is a long period without the machine. This time is good for us to save, but it turns completely against if we need the computer more or less urgently.

In my case, as a user of a 20 ″ iMac bought in May 2008, model of 2007, it is time to renew and I will wait for new models to come out or, at least, an update. In the Canary Islands it is somewhat heavier to buy an iMac "to taste" and I am clear that if you do not change that the ram is soldered, I want it with 16gb., And that already leads me to make a special order that takes months to arrive. Then there is the question of whether to order it with 2gb Fusion. or with SSD, that also depends on what Sierra offers us, but I always prefer to have internal storage capacity. I do not see a need for the retina screen, but we will have to see what movement Apple makes with the screens, if it improves the graphics, if it adds any USB C, the processors, the price issues ...

Anyway, we are already in July and if I am going to have to make a significant outlay, I prefer to do it for the new generation, which I did not do in 2008 and I do not regret it, but it is not something I want to repeat. My iMac already supports more than 8 years behind it and it shows.
