The Google Drive app is causing some problems for OS X Mavericks users as you can read on the Apple support forums. This problem is not serious, but some users realized that something strange was happening with the icons on their desktop and they all agree in their explanations: slight blinking on the icons.
This is not normal at all and when you realize the problem, the first thing you do is look on the Apple support website where It seems that there are several affected and for some time. This problem is basically attributed to the installation of the Google Drive desktop application, which also seems to be partly to blame for some problems with Finder.
One of the solutions is obviously to exit or even directly delete Google Drive from our Mac, but if you are a user of this application you can perform another 'trick' to avoid this problem. This problem is directly linked to OS X Mavericks and any previous version of OS X does not present this problem, which has led to further investigation of those affected discovering that the cause of the problem is App Nap, What it does is reduce the consumption of the applications when they are not active and save the Mac's battery, but this can cause problems in the applications and is what happens with Google Drive.
To deactivate App Nap, it is so simple how to access the application information either by pressing right button above and on Get information or directly with cmd + i in the app for check the box Prevent App Nap or completely disable App Nap from the terminal following the tutorial that Miguel did in his day and that right here.
Now the Google Drive application will no longer cause flickering or crashes, although it is expected that this problem will be corrected in future versions.
In Yosemite Google Drive makes neither SAFARI nor ITUNES work well, uninstalled and all problems solved.
