Google Drive will allow us to work with the files on demand

Google Drive will be compatible with the Mac M1

The application that Google makes available to us to synchronize our files with the cloud is one of the worst that we can currently find on the market. Not only is it slow, but it also works when it wants to, as well as forcing us to download all the content we have stored in the cloud.

In this way, if we have an account with many GB of space, beyond the 15 GB that it offers us for free, and our team is short of space, we have a serious space problem, at least for a few months when Google make the changes it has announced.

Google has announced that the File Stream application, the application used by Google Suite customers, will be the default application for all users of the Google storage service.

This application allows us to download the files we need on demand, that is, as we need them to open or edit them, they are downloaded to our device, in the same way that iCloud works, OneDrive and Dropbox for several years.

In this way, the application that normal users currently use, Google Backup and Synchronization, will no longer be available and there will only be one application available for all Drive customers, whether companies or individuals.

For now, Google has already changed the name to the version for clients, from File Stream to Drive for computers, so it is likely that this expected change in the operation of Google Drive for Mac and PC will not take long to get.

A few days ago, Google announced that the application to synchronize files will be available for Macs with M1 in the month of April. Hopefully by that date, the new version will be released that allows us to work with the files that we really need.

I've been using Google Drive for years and for quite some time in Google's Backup and Synchronization Preferences you can choose if you want to Synchronize all My Drive or only the folders you choose on your drive.
