YouTube TV is Google's bet to offer a subscription system to the main American television networks, which have traditionally been available through cable. YouTube TV offers us, through a dedicated application, access to more than 50 channels that broadcast live, the possibility of recording programs in the cloud and up to 6 users under the same account, all for $ 35 a month.
This service debuted in April in the form of an application for mobile devices. Yesterday, the Mountain View-based company announced the launch of a dedicated application for Android TV, Xbox and smart TVs. The launch of the app for Apple TV will follow soon.
In the announcement that Google has made on the website, the company states:
We are delighted to introduce the new YouTube TV app for smart TVs. In the coming days, you will be able to enjoy the channels available on this service through your Android TV such as Sony models, the Xbox One family of consoles or set-top boxes devices managed by Android. In the coming weeks we will launch the new app for smart TVs from LG, Samsjung, Sony and Apple TV.
The YouTube TV application offers us an interface very similar to the one we can find in the mobile application, with a section called Home, Trends and Library. In addition, it also includes a night mode, a section where the next programs are shown and the possibility of browse the content while one of the available channels is playing.
Among the TV channels that have already joined this new method that will sooner or later replace cable we find the ABC, CBS, Fox, NCB, CW, Disney, ESPN, FX, USA Today in addition to allowing access to all the content available on YouTube.
