HomePod can leave marks on varnish-finished wood surfaces

Today you can only buy the HomePod in a few countries, but in the coming months, it will be possible to purchase it practically all over the world. Apple is adapting Siri speech recognition for all languages.

But if you are thinking of acquiring the HomePod as soon as it goes on sale in your country, think about where you place it. Apple has recognized that the HomePod can give mark in the shape of a circle if you leave it on a wooden surface, such as a table or a board, if it is finished with varnish or similar.

We know the information from the comments made on the website of VentureBeat . At least one Twitter user, in this case Stuart miles, uploaded a photo to the social network with the image. In the article, we can read:

For our tests we placed the loudspeaker on a solid oak kitchen countertop treated with Danish oil.

Within 20 minutes, the HomePod caused a white discolored ring to appear on the wood that a few days later has faded, although it has not yet completely disappeared.

We then tested the HomePod on other materials: the same wood that hadn't been treated with Danish oil and a regular lacquered desk and we haven't seen the same problems.

Apple's reply has not been long in coming. To the company, a silicone-based speaker can leave a 'soft mark' when placed on varnished surfaces. These marks arise from chemical interactions with the wood coating.

These marks can last several days until the final disappearance. If it does not disappear, Apple proposes to contact the manufacturer of the furniture, to find out the most appropriate treatment.

HomePod can damage wooden furniture: an unfortunate discovery after placing a HomePod on a greased butcher block countertop and later on a wooden side table. The speaker left a white ring on the surface. Other owners have reported the same issue, which an Apple representative has confirmed. Apple says the markings can remain for several days after the speaker has been removed from the surface of the wood.

Tests detected on other surfaces show no significant problems.
