We all know the existence of widgets on Mac, but many of us hardly even get to see them why they find that on the dashboard, yes, that first page that almost nobody looks at or if we see is "by accident", because these widgets can be used on the desktop of our Mac and thus have a greater presence in our Macs, not to say that of, Luckily they are good for something!
These types of widgets are quite useful, but in the right place because if you are not used to visiting the Dashboard, see them, today in Soy de Mac, we will change this way of using them and we can get more out of the OS X widgets.
This "trick" is nothing newBut you know that I like to say that the newest users with the Apple operating system are always in constant learning of new things and it may be that more than one will use it. In OS X Mountain Lion, the Dashboard is downplayed and that's why we have to take advantage of those widgets that are hosted there, let's see how to use them.
To 'get' the Dashboard widgets individually on the desktop, we have to activate the Developer Panel firstLet's see how to activate this panel in a very simple way.
The first that we have to do es, open Terminal and write the following command line (you can copy and paste directly from here)
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
Next, we have to open the menu from select System Preferences and then, we choose the "Mission Control" option from the panel.
We deactivate the option marked by origin with the check, «Show the Dashboard as a space» to get the widgets out of the Dashboard. Once we have this ready, we just have to return to the menu and perform a restart by closing the session for example.
How to bring widgets to the desktop.
Now to get any widget from the dashboard and 'paste' it on the desktop, we will have to use the F4 key on the keyboard and at the same time press on the widget that we want to bring to the desktop. Once this keyboard and mouse combination is made, without letting go we drag it to the desktop and place it in the desired place, it is important to comment that this widget will 'float' above the other windows and apps, so I personally recommend that you don't use many.
If we go over or simply no longer want a specific widget on the desktop, we also have the option to remove it from the desktop, let's see how.
Remove a widget from the desktop
This is done simply by reversing the placement process, that is, we press the widget with the F4 key pressed at the same time and drag the widget that we no longer want to the Dashboard, as simple as this.
Is it good or bad to have the Developer Panel active?
Well, it is not bad, the only thing that if we do not dominate much in Mac OS X, we must be careful not to touch other options that it gives us with this active panel, if we do not want to have it active, we simply must enter Terminal as explained above and simply change that YES for a NO on the same line, it would look like this:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode NO
Once the line is placed, we will have to restart the session again, first close and then open from the menu, the widgets we put on the desktop will still be there, when we disable this option.

Well, this trick I did not know. Thanks a lot
Well I must be very clumsy because it does not come out
Do you restart the session, when you finish the process in Terminal? I do.
Yes, in fact it appears on desktop 1 when I drag with 4 fingers up as it appears in the screenshot but then it does not appear on the desktop

Well, after restarting completely, not the session, it already appears, thank you very much.
Anyway it's a shame that it floats over everything, on a 13 macbook it makes it unusable
I'm glad it works for you.
Like so many other entries by Jordi Giménez, the article is literally taken from OSXDaily without even a mention of the source. I add it, because "sure" it has passed: http://osxdaily.com/2013/01/18/add-dashboard-widgets-desktop-mac-os-x/
Sorry to say that this article is literally taken from OS X Daily is saying a lot. Where do you see the resemblance? Because apart from the fact that the subject is the same, the captures are the author of this article, and not even the text is the same. If the article is the same, the source is set, as is done in many other posts on this blog, but when one "works" the article from beginning to end, I don't see why.
If you search online there are dozens of articles that explain the same thing, should we also add them as a source?
It doesn't work for me, f4 is the same key as the lauchpad, and it doesn't let me select the dashboard item without jumping to the launchpad, I could change the shortcut, but maybe I have decided to leave the dashboard as is.
The same thing happens to me as Tony, when I type f4 mem the launchpad comes up and it won't let me move the widget to the desktop 🙁
But the widgets are always in the foreground, but the good thing would be that they always remain in the background like the desktop.
