How to disable autocorrect in macOS

macOS-High-Sierra-1

The autocorrect that comes natively activated on all operating systems is an excellent tool that is responsible for running the grammatical and / or spelling errors that we can make when we are writing a text. Although it is true that it is an excellent tool, from time to time it does some mischief without us noticing.

If we habitually use words in other languages, product names, or in general if we usually write about specific topics, it is more than likely that most of the words are not in the dictionary, or are similar to any other, a similarity that will put macOS to work to replace the specific word or words.

Fortunately, all operating systems allow us to disable the autocorrect, so that when we are forced to use very specific terminology, the macOS checker, don't ruin our work. But before deactivating it, we must take into account, where we are going to write the document or where we want the autocorrect to be deactivated, since if we are going to write in Microsoft Word, this application has its own autocorrect, so cancel the native of macOS, it won't stop the Word one from working.

Once we are clear about which application we are going to write and if we do not want the autocorrect to start doing its thing, we must proceed as follows:

Disable autocorrect in macOS

  • First we go to System Preferences, either through the menu on the top bar of our Mac, or through Spotlight by writing system preferences.
  • Next we go to Keyboard and then to Text.
  • We look for the option Correct spelling automatically and deactivate the box.

By unchecking this box, autocorrect will stop working and it will not be put into operation again unless we perform these steps again and activate the box that we have previously deactivated again.
