How to disable spell checker, OS X Mountain Lion

mountain-lion

Many of us believe that the iOS spell checker, like that of OS X, more than a help, when we are writing can be quite annoying. It is clear that not everyone thinks the same, there are also people who like the way this corrector guides us when we write, whether in a forum, on blogs or simply a text document, but many times, it corrects at will and that does not quite convince the user.

We also have the option to add other languages in the correction, but in this post we will only dedicate ourselves to disable auto-checker In three simple steps, so that it stops correcting, we can activate this option again whenever we want, since it is native from versions prior to OS in Soy de Mac, we saw how activate text substitutions and proofreader for all programs. This time we will see how to deactivate the corrector and for this, we just have to follow these simple steps:

We access System Preferences, which is where the corrector is configured, among many other options, we select Language and text and we can start to remove (deactivate) the corrector that is activated by default:

preferences-1

Once inside the menu changes and the new window will appear and we press on the Text tab

preferences-2

Then we have to uncheck the option Correct spelling automatically That comes out with the check symbol «√» and I will be deactivated, close the windows and voila, if you want to activate it again it is as simple as selecting it again in Correct spelling automatically.

preferences-3

That's how easy it is to deactivate the checker spelling, we hope that the checker will receive improvements in future updates from Apple, since it leaves much to be desired and since the update received in the past OS X Snow Leopard has not had more considerable improvements, to see if little by little they will get this native OS X Mountain Lion feature, upgrade. We can also edit to correct it in other languages, such as English, but it is clear that it does not quite work as it should ... this does not only happen in Mac OS X Mountain Lion, most of the correctors that I have tried on other platforms outside of Mac , they have finished my patience.

Well, after updating to MAVERICK, the ENABLE / DISABLE box in the text substitution part has disappeared.

Has it happened to someone else or is it coming like this in Maverik? Why has it been removed?

    regards

I have already done what you say here on the keyboard and it keeps changing the words in the pages
and in the numbers. The worst thing is that it does not point them out to me, but it changes them automatically. I write in Catalan and it changes everything to Spanish and it takes me a long time to have to review and correct everything letter by letter. Does anyone know how I can disable it? Thanks!

Thanks a lot. In Yosemite it is not exactly this way, but it is practically the same. Very useful.

I have already deactivated it eight or nine times, following this same procedure that you explain here and deleting the shortcuts these text that they put on you. Well, without touching absolutely anything, it ends up being activated again, at least the shortcuts. I have one that I don't know where it came from, which is that when I write "da" it automatically changes me to "Okay." Needless to say, it is a shortcut that I don't need at all and that I never use, but when I write "da" (from the verb give) it automatically changes me and it annoys me a lot. It also happens to me on the iPhone and no matter how many times I erase it, in the end the bloody text shortcuts appear again. Does anyone have any idea how or why this happens?
    Thank you.

    Responding to "I":

You can create text shortcuts so that when you type certain characters, they are automatically replaced by the text of your choice. Chances are someone who had access to your mac set the "da" shortcut to "OK."

To view text shortcuts on your mac, as well as edit and create new ones, in OS X Yosemite: System Preferences> Keyboard> Text.

Hopefully this information will serve many 🙂
