How to force quit an application on MacBook Pro 2016, if the Touch Bar is not responding

MacOs is one of the most stable operating systems that we can find today. This implies that the fluidity and simplicity of the processes is very refined. Even so, there are exceptions, such as the times that an app does not respond and we must force it to exit. One of the first impressions that I got when I started with a Mac, is how quickly the program closes, so I can reopen it immediately. But perhaps this process can be complicated in the new MacBook Pro 2016, since the escape key, necessary to activate the sequence Cmd + Alt + escape, and thereby invoking the force exit of an app, may not be available. Then what do we do?

First, you can refresh the Touch Bar, with a terminal command. Open it and enter the following sequence:

pkill "Touch Bar agent"

The bar should restart and our long-awaited button will be available again.

But sometimes the problem reoccurs. Generally this happens when the application has a bug, which prevents it from continuing properly. In that case, the previous step may not be enough and we must go to the traditional application to force the application exit. In that case, we must follow the following steps:

  1. You must go to the upper left, and click on the Apple symbol .
  2. Choose the option "Force exit" within the menu options.
  3. Search and click on the application that causes you problems to continue and want to close, because you cannot continue with the work.
  4. Now, click on the "Force Quit" button.

The application will close instantly. You can also get to point 3 with a fairly intuitive keyboard shortcut. Remind you that this shortcut is: Cmd + Alt + escape.

Ending where we started, the content of this article should not be put into practice on a very recurring basis, and if this happens frequently, we may need to check the compatibility or installation of this particular application.
