How to install Safari on your new Apple TV

If you've already gotten the new one Apple TV sure there is one thing you are missing, a web browser. Jobs' company has not only not included Safari In the new model, it does not also allow apps that include a web browser or open links, however, the truth is that this new set-top-box is prepared for it and you can take advantage of it.

Safari in full screen with your Apple TV

If you want to use Safari the screen of your huge TV you can share via AirPlay from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to Apple TV But, let's face it, it's not the same. Luckily the new toy is ready for a browser to work on it, although Apple has "capped" it for now. Would you like to have a browser on Apple TV like in this video?

We will tell you the solution below thanks to the guys from Actualidad iPad, but beware! It is not an easy task for the most inexperienced.

The first thing will be to eliminate the incompatibility in Xcode by modifying some lines from the file "availability.h":

1.Open "Xcode.app"

2.Look for the file “availability.h”

3. Right click on it and select "Show Package Contents".

4.Navigate to the route

"Contents / Developer / Platforms / AppleTVOS.platform / Developer / SDKs / AppleTVOS.sdk / usr / include".

5. Inside it, open the file "availability.h" with Xcode

6.Look for these lines:

#define __TVOS_UNAVAILABLE

__OS_AVAILABILITY (tvos, unavailable) #define

__TVOS_PROHIBITED __OS_AVAILABILITY (tvos, unavailable)

7. Replace them with these:

#define __TVOS_UNAVAILABLE_NOTQUITE

__OS_AVAILABILITY (tvos, unavailable) #define

__TVOS_PROHIBITED_NOTQUITE

__OS_AVAILABILITY (tvos, unavailable)

8. Save the file.

The next step will be build the Safari app for Apple TV. For this it is necessary to use the GitHub project that you will find here and follow the same process that they explain to us in this video.

When the app Safari is installed in the Apple TV you can now use it through the new remote Siri Remote and its trackpad through which you can move through the web pages you visit and scroll:

  • Press Menu to go back
  • Press Play to enter a URL or web address
  • By clicking on the trackpad you can switch between scroll mode and cursor mode

Hopefully Apple reconsiders its whimsical decision and soon releases a tvOS update that includes the app Safari native to him Apple TV, it is an incomprehensible decision.
