How to move your iPhoto photos to the new Photos app

With OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 finally the new app arrived Photos, loved and almost hated in equal parts but that, whether we want it or not, there it is. If you were a user of iPhoto You may be wondering how to transfer your image library from one app to another. The process is very simple so let's go with it!

From iPhoto to Photos easily

In my particular case, I did not use the already disappeared iPhoto (I was never quite convinced, although I don't know exactly why) so I didn't have to do anything. However, if you had all your photos stored in this app, now you must migrate your library to Photos and for this, you just have to follow the following steps:

How to move photos to iPhoto new app Photos

  1. First optimize your library of iPhoto- Find and remove duplicates, assign faces, edit metadata if you think necessary, and more.
  2. When done, make sure to completely close both iPhoto and Photos.
  3. Next, open the Finder, go to Images, and there you will see that you have two image libraries, one for each of these two applications.
  4. Photo Library OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite

Now, remove the «Photo Library» that you have in Images, in this way you will avoid having more than one library.

  5. Open the Photos app and a message will appear informing you that the photos cannot be found in the «Photos Library» system. Don't worry, this is because we have previously eliminated it in the previous step.
  6. Select "Open another ..."
  7. Now choose the library of iPhoto and press about Choose Library

From now on, you just have to wait for your entire iPhone library and its data to be imported into the new app. Photos.

You can now delete iPhoto from your Mac. Although it is true that you can still use it, it will no longer receive updates from Apple, in fact it has already disappeared from the App Store, and any changes you make there will not be reflected in Photos.

As you can see, the process is very simple. If you liked this post, don't miss many more tips, tricks and tutorials in our section Tutorials. And if you have doubts, in Applelised Questions You can ask all the questions you have and also help other users to clear up their doubts.

Hello. I usually use the "export" tool in Iphoto to reduce the size or weight of the images. Can this be done with the new application?
