How to restore Safari to fix some performance issues

safari-1

Sometimes we can observe bugs or small problems in the Safari browser while browsing the net and we have no idea why it fails. We can try to solve this with a restart of the Mac, but in some cases it is possible that these errors are not solved after the restart and that is why that we can restore Safari to solve these problems related on many occasions to the unsuccessful loading of content on some websites, slowness in Safari, etc.

Something that we have to make clear from the beginning is that we have done this restoration on a Mac with OS X Mavericks operating system, although it almost certainly works on previous OS X but we have not tested it and another important piece of information is that When we click on 'Restore', confirmation is not requested, so be very careful before pressing the button since we will erase the data we select. That being said, now let's see how to restore Safari to troubleshoot possible problems with the native Apple browser.

safari-restored

The first thing we have to do if we have errors in Safari is restart the computerIf this does not solve the problem, you have to follow these steps:

  • We open the Safari browser and select the Safari tab in the top menu
  • Click on Restore Safari and choose the data that we want to erase and restore
  • Click on restore and that's it

As we say, once we press on restore there is no going back and all the data that we have selected will be deleted, so we have to be careful before pressing. Favorites and Reading List they are not deleted when we restore Safari, passwords and usernames previously stored in iCloud Keychain are also not erased.

If you really have problems with Apple's native browser We advise you to restore all the data by selecting all the restoration options, since this way is more than possible to solve the problems. Another highly recommended option is to try another browser for mac, there are many and in the link that we just left you are the best ones.

The solution you offer requires "opening the browser" and the problem is that my browser will NOT open and a message appears on the screen that an application was closed unexpectedly and then informs Apple of this, and then the same message appears again and reports again, and a loop occurs that never ends.

    Help me please !!

Same problem! With yosemite I put an update today and I'm not going safari. For now I use google chrome to get away ...

It opens and closes the second. I don't know what to do, I've even tried to delete it and see if Yosemite works like that and tries to install it ... but nothing. I've run out of Safari until I figure out how to install it.
Also it cannot be downloaded from the web.

I have the same problem, I cannot restore safari in Yosemite, but my problem is greater. It does not start me, it says «safari has closed unexpectedly, giving me the option to ignore, report and restart. Starting mac in safe mode does work, but I don't know what to do to fix it. A help please.

I am disappointed with the Safari 8.0 for yosemite, »Safari crashed unexpectedly» and I cannot in any way restore or download it from the apple APP. A real disaster.

Well, I answer to myself and whoever serves. Diving through the apple forums I have tried one of the solutions and it has worked wonderfully for me. It involves downloading and running the free Adwaremedic tool. It seems that it is an anti adware and / or malware that the safari has left me again (without losing settings or favorites or anything). a greeting

      1.    Luis said

Fantastic, your solution has worked, really holy hand. When you run Adwaremedic it reports that there is a corrupted safari file, but that it is not in the Safari libraries themselves »Contens» but is in the Users, so even if it is deleted All the Contens library and Safari is reinstalled, it still doesn't work. THANK YOU VERY MUCH CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

I have Mavericks and due to a failure to identify the boot hard drive, I have been forced to reinstall it again. It has worked again but from that moment all the links for the web that it had or those that come to you in an email do not open; or if they are links that I already had (webloc) a window appears that says "I cannot open the Opera.app application because PowerPC applications are no longer supported" (???) and if I click on a link (link) that comes to me in Mail absolutely nothing happens.
Before, in both cases, Safari (which is still consigned as preferred) was opened and did its job.
Could you guide me in solving this problem?

    Thanks in advance

      Solved!
Despite not having had answers to my problem, here is how the solution has been in case someone were in similar circumstances and found this writing.

It turns out that to download a document of more than 1 Giga that someone sent me, I had to access the download page called 'Mega'. This page tells you from the beginning that with downloads greater than 1 Giga it does not work well at all and recommends using 'Firefox' or 'Opera' instead of 'Safari'. So I downloaded and installed 'Firefox' and everything was perfect. Other documents similar in weight kept coming to me and everything went well, but on one occasion when the urgency hit me 'Firefox' gave me little problems and I decided to download and install 'Opera', which worked perfectly with the download.

Well, 'Opera' managed to position itself as a 'preferred search engine' after asking my permission and I, clearly, having said no; that such a search engine is 'Safari'.

When the problems for which I was asking for help started, I threw everything that had to do with 'Opera' to the trash, using programs dedicated to this mission and completely cleaning the computer of any vestige of 'Opera' . But since the problem persisted, I took this morning to look at the preferences of 'Safari' and ... there was the problem! since the same 'Safari' had like preferred search engine to 'Opera'.
Once this is changed (from 'Opera' to 'Safari'), everything has started working as it should and, it seems, that the problem is gone.

Let's see if someone can help me since I don't know if I'm in the right thread here.

For a week I have had problems with my browsers, first Firefox, which is the one I used, the session does not open, I have to open the window in "safe mode", and so on. I did everything on the Mozilla page to fix the problem. It starts up but when I turn off the computer it goes back to its old ways. Now the same thing happens to me with Safari, which doesn't even open anymore. I think I have gotten a virus and I wanted to try AdwareMedic, but I have snow leopard 10,6.8 and it does not allow this antivirus. Can someone tell me which antivirus I can use? Or for you to guide me on how I can solve this problem with my browsers. What can I do?

    Thank you very much

On some pages, when I open them in Safari, I get a message "There was a problem repeatedly with" and it points to the page.
When you open them with another browser on the same computer, it opens without problems.
I recently updated the operating system.
I have restarted the computer and the same message appears again.
How can I solve this problem?
