iFixit disassembles the new Mac mini Late 2014

After seeing the inside of the new 27-inch iMac Retina iFixit colleagues do the same with the new Mac mini Late 2014. The conclusions about the possibility for the user to repair the small Mac are somewhat low considering its scale of repairability.

Last Monday we saw one of the main problems of this new Mac mini and it is its RAM soldered to motherboard, something that users do not really like because it always limits the possibilities of expanding the team in the future. In addition the score of 6 out of 10 in ease of repair The one the iFixit guys rate the Mac mini with is worse than 8 out of 10 in the previous version of 2012.

Other differences found in the Mac mini late 2014 is that now to access its guts you need a Torx screwdriver while in the previous version it was not necessary to use a screwdriver to access the interior of the Mac. Once we have access to the interior you can look at the new AirPort card that plugs directly into a PCIe slot instead of via cable and we see that we only have one SATA port available.

The power supply for this new Mac mini is exactly the same as used in previous versions 2011 and 2012. In the case of the hard disk, there is an additional outlet that could be used to connect an SSD through a PCIe cable. The disassembly is not complicated but the soldered RAM and the new Torx screws are a couple of obvious differences in the new Ma mini models.

You can see the entire disassembly process directly from the website of iFixit.
