iFixit shows us the ins and outs of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with M1

iFixit shows us the inside of the new MacBook with M1

iFixit has done it again and now thanks to them we know what the new MacBooks with the M1 chip look like inside. They teach us the news that Apple has included inside the new computers. Although There seems to be not much difference between this year's models and those owned by Intel, the secret lies in the new processor and some other change.

Few changes inside but there are some, according to what they tell us from iFixit

There are not too many changes between the interior of the new MacBooks and those of last year (the ones that mount Intel), but there are. At The new 13 ″ MacBook Pro is where the differences are least noticeable between one model and another. In the new MacBook Air there are more differences, the most striking being the elimination of the fan only.

We are going to see the changes that exist between one model and another by comparing the new MacBook Air and Pro with those of last year. We'll start with Apple's lightest model.

Changes to MacBook Air

Apple has removed the fan in favor of a simple diffuser aluminum heat plate hanging from the left edge of the logic board. It can be worrying news, especially since the MacBook Air hasn't had a good cooling record. However, it seems that things are not bad by any means.

A thick cold plate on the M1 processor draws heat through conduction to its flatter, cooler end, where it can safely radiate. Without a fan, this solution may take longer to cool down, but No. there are moving parts, and nothing can break.

The new 13 ”MacBook Pro is identical to its predecessor

They are exactly the same. Even the iFixit staff They joke that they thought they bought last year's model instead of the new one with M1. But no, there is a big difference between the two and it is Apple's own processor, but at first glance it seems that they are exactly the same.

The cooling configuration of the M1 MacBook Pro is very similar to its Intel-based predecessors. Just a copper conduit that carries heat away from the processor to a small heatsink. The individual fan of the new MacBook Pro with M1 is the same than the 2020 MacBook Pro with Intel.

Logically the big difference in both new models is the M1 chip. Built on a state-of-the-art 5 nanometer process conhas eight CPU cores (four optimized for performance and four more for efficiency) and an integrated GPU with 7 or 8 cores, depending on the configuration you order.

Here we have the famous Apple M1 that makes the Californian company and its users begin to forget Intel. As we see little news and differences inside the two new MacBook presented a few weeks ago. We already saw the inside of the Mac mini and the HomePod mini. Apple knows how to take advantage of components from other eras to create new models.
