iMovie for Mac has received a significant new update that brings support 4K, and support for Full HD videos at 60 frames per second. The update that corresponds to the launch of the long-awaited new iMac 21 ″ Retina 4K display, allows users edit y share 4K movies. Advertised as the version 10.1, the new iMovie update will allow those using Retina Displays enabled on their iMacs, or a MacPro with connected 4K display, edit videos in 4K resolution.
The new version of iMovie brings the following characteristics:
- Create and share movies with the incredible resolution 4K (3840 x 2160) on supported Mac computers.
- Create and share movies with video format HD 1080p at 60 frames per second and enjoy more fluidity and realism in the action.
- Import movies and trailers from iMovie for iOS (version 2.2 and later), allowing you to start edit your projects on an iOS device y end up on a mac.
- Visualization Content has been redesigned so you can see more of your library when browsing the videos and photos.
- Visualization Projects allows you to easily search and open movies and trailers.
- All the browser tabs provide faster access to titles, backgrounds, transitions, and music while editing a movie.

For to export 4K video, Mac 2011 or later is required with a minimum of 4 GB of RAM. 4K content can be played on iMac computers with Retina display and Mac Pro computers (2013 or later) connected to a 4K display.
iMovie is available on the Mac App Store by 14,99 €. And it is the brother of Final Cut Pro X, which is available for 299,99 €. Final Cut Pro X contains more options and features for demanding videographers. It's a lot more flexible, and a lot more powerful than iMovie, but iMovie itself is a great starting point for those new to video editing.
