After all the hype around this issue, where Apple was going to stop short of offering its payment services in the cloud For Greek citizens, due to the economic crisis the country is going through, in the end it will not be as blunt as it might seem at first. For avoid this abrupt interruption, Apple will offer a 30-day extension for paying iCloud subscribers who are currently unable to pay monthly fees due to restrictions imposed by the Greek government with the now familiar "corralito".
With the recent "no" to Brussels by the Greek citizens, a new agreement is still being sought for that long-awaited financial rescue loan to arrive, for this reason the country has lifted capital control restrictions to avoid a potential cash flight that its already depressed economy would completely collapse. This directly affects this type of subscription since the credit cards (loans) would not be operational.
In early July, Apple shipped emails to Greek subscribers iCloud advising that iCloud paid storage services would become standard 5GB accounts if monthly fees were not paid on time. However, it seems to have regressed in this regard by giving this 30-day extension.
The email that users are receiving is the following:
Dear iCloud customer,
To avoid interruption to your iCloud service during the current tax crisis and to make sure you have access to your content we have extended the iCloud storage plan with an extra 30 days at no additional cost.
We will not attempt to charge you for your plan until 30 days after the original renewal date. From then on, if we are unable to renew your plan, you may have to reduce the amount of iCloud storage that you will be using.
