Kuo: Apple won't add Mini-LED displays until 2021

Mini LED

Today Kuo has spoken. Well, rather, typed. The Korean analyst rubs shoulders with most of the component manufacturers that make up Apple devices. So when you drop a rumor, the truth is that you have to listen to it because they have their foundation. Has talked about the screens Mini LED.

In one of his usual research notes, he states today that Apple is sure to start mounting screens with Mini-LED technology in its new devices, but that this change, which was planned to start launching a model in 2020, will be delayed to 2021.

Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a press release today that the development of new devices with Apple mini-LED displays has not been significantly delayed, but the adoption of this type of technology may be delayed in the short term, according to the forecasts that the company initially had and that will not be fulfilled.

Kuo has stated this in a research note with TF International Securities published today at MacRumors. It says that the mini-LED driver, panel, mount and terminals are expected to start mass production in the third quarter of 2020. A subsequent increase in production will follow for the fourth quarter, and the first quarter of 2021.

It also ensures that Apple has plans to four or six products with mini-LED displays in the coming years. Kuo has previously predicted that the company will launch a 12,9-inch iPad Pro with an A14X chip in the third quarter of 2020, and an updated 16-inch MacBook Pro in the fourth quarter of this year.

Advantages Mini-LED

Mini-LED panels offer several advantages over OLEDs, and Apple knows this.

While Kuo's note today suggests that Apple's plans for new mini-LED devices may have been slightly delayed, the analyst estimates that Apple's mini-LED product shipments will grow significantly around the 300 percent in 2021, and a 225 by 2022.

What Mini-LED screens bring

Mini-LED screens will make the designs of the devices that incorporate them be thinner and lighter, while continuing to offer many of the same benefits that OLED displays currently offer used in the latest iPhones. Enhancements include increased color gamut performance, high contrast and dynamic range, and better local dimming for more authentic blacks.
