Learn how to sync your iPhone or iPad with macOS Catalina without iTunes

macos catalina

One of the novelties that we have seen with the arrival of macOS Catalina is that iTunes, loved and hated in equal measure, has disappeared just as we have had it with us all these years. Already you know that it has been divided into three applications: Music, Podcasts and TV. Everything you already had in the iTunes library is still available in the corresponding app, Unless you had multiple libraries.

The question that now arises for all of us who are about to install or have installed this new version of macOS, is How do we synchronize, backup, update or restore our iPhone, iPad or Apple TV with our Mac? The answer is quite simple and I think much simpler than it may seem at first. In fact, why hasn't it always been like this?

With macOS Catalina, the Finder takes the place of iTunes.

With the disappearance or rather reconversion of iTunes, synchronize, make backup copies, update and restore the iPhone and iPad (we cannot forget our beloved Apple TV), with our Mac, it will be a Finder thing on our computer.

We simply have to connect the device that we want to synchronize with our Mac and the window will automatically open that shows us which device we have connected. In the left side from the Finder, You should go to "locations", there you will find the iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. If you click on the one that is connected, you will see a series of options in the main window.

In that window, at the bottom right, you will see the option to synchronize. Click on it and it will start immediately. Keep in mind that if you connect the device, and the Finder does not open automatically, you will only have to start it manually. To do this, click on the Finder icon in the Dock. Follow the steps above, searching for the connected device in locations.

This article talks about how to synchronize the iPhone with the Mac, but I would like to know how to deactivate this automatic synchronization when I connect my iPhone to the Mac. Every time I connect my iPhone to the Mac I uncheck the "Automatically synchronize to connect this iPhone », but when I disconnect and reconnect the box is selected again… I mean, I don't know how to make it so that I can connect my iPhone only to charge it, as it could be done with the previous version of macOS, which included iTunes .
    Thank you very much!
