Macintosh Icon Designer Susan Kare Has Been Awarded for Her Lifetime Achievement

After more than tthree decades dedicated to graphic design, and having created the legendary Macintosh icon, Susan Kare has been honored for her entire career by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (also known as AIGA). In past editions, some of the winners have been Paul Rand, a graphic designer who worked for IBM, UPS and the American network ABC, and Charles and Ray Eames, an American architect and furniture designer.

Karen began her career as a sculptor before joining the Macintosh project, eventually becoming a fellow student of one of the project's programmers, Andy Hertzfeld. Although had no knowledge of computers this allowed him to create a series of icons for the graphical interface that was accessible and understandable to everyone.

Kare, decorated, in addition to many others, his office with the pirate flag with a rainbow-colored patch, reaffirming the motivational slogan the company had at the time: It's better to be a pirate than to enlist in the navy. In recent years, Kare has been working on Facebook but is currently on Picterest. Previously, he was also working at Microsoft, IBM, Intel, Motorola and Sony Pictures.

No doubt Apple has a very big doubt with Susan and it is appreciated. At Apple they made a small nod to their work with the launch of the icon that represents the Face Id, as we can see in the image above, or at least that is what we would like to think.

According to the notes on the website of this institute:

Through the years, Kare has strictly adhered to a design philosophy that is based on the principles of simplicity, clarity and beauty. And although she has upgraded her graph paper tools to design software, Kare still places great importance on context and metaphor. On the streets of San Francisco, he boldly searches for catchy shapes and symbols; Once the inspiration strikes, you work within a grid-like template in Adobe Illustrator, a tool that helps you visualize the constraints of the device on which your user will see your icons. Each icon, he maintains, should not only be easy to understand, but also easy to remember.
