MacID will remain available even if Apple presents Touch ID to unlock your Mac

I have talked these days about the great possibility that Apple will launch a new way to unlock your Mac with Touch ID in a next version of OS X. For those who are aware, this can be done already with applications of the App Storeas Macid, but if Apple brings this feature for the native installation of OS X. What will happen to these third-party applications?.

There has not yet been no confirmation that such a feature is guaranteed to arrive on the Mac, as it is nothing more than a rumor, and honestly we probably won't know for sure until the  WWDC 2016, and Apple announces its new OS X. On the other hand, let's say hypothetically Apple introduces this feature. How would third-party applications that do similar things be affected?.

MacID vs. Apple

Although most people will say that they will only start to use the built-in OS X and iOS feature on third-party apps to unlock their Mac with Touch ID, there are still going to be some features that will make a difference with the next native function that Apple could integrate.

For example, Macid which can be purchased in the App Store for 3,99 €, has a number of characteristics about the future touch ID that have not been mentioned in the current rumors, and that probably would not be included in one of the implementations of the system itself touch ID from Apple for Mac computers.

If Apple would let you unlock your Mac with the Touch ID sensor using a bluetooth connection, and you've decided to stop using MacID altogether, you would still be missing out on various features that third-party apps like MacID have to offer such as:

  • Works with multiple Macs, iOS devices, and Apple Watch at the same time.
  • Unlock your Mac using Touch ID, with passcode, Apple Watch, or with a Pebble.
  • Interactive notifications that make you don't even have to unlock your iOS device.
  • Control the audio on your Mac, which works with iTunes and Spotify.
  • Manually lock your Mac, or start the screen saver remotely.
  • Auto-lock when the iOS device moves away from your Mac.
  • Approaching it automatically unlocks when you return to your Mac.
  • Touch 3D shortcuts.
  • Widget in Notification Center.
  • Choose from color combinations.
  • I use MacID to authorize tasks that require an administrator password in your OS X. (Only for administrator accounts)
  • MacID for OS X never connects to the Internet without your consent.
  • Your OS X password is not issued and it never leaves your Mac.
  • Incredibly easy to use, but packed with features and options.

The list goes to show that even if Apple integrates a feature of Touch ID on your Macs, there are still a ton of amazing features to be taken into Macid, because the above list is bigger in functionalities.

Conclusion excellent features without exaggerating even the simplest features, and the Touch ID that Apple could implement won't come with as many features and user settings as the MacID has.

In general, Apple's general approach is to do something that meets the criteria for stability and ease of use. The advanced users who want more options to configure often more characteristic, they are left in the dark in the hope that the application developers they can meet and meet your needs.

Ending

Touch ID is great functionality, and I think Apple has only begun to tap into its potential. Touch ID could be rolled out from iOS devices with the rest of Apple's devices at some point, but third-party services may lead to better to ensure get the best user experience.

For Kane the MacID developer, it is not the end of the world for your application, since still plan to continue supporting with new features, even if Apple brings these features to the Mac in the new OS X 10.2.
