MacOS Sierra Tip: Don't sync your desktop to iCloud

Apple adds a 2TB macos option to iCloud for € 19,99 per month

The update has just arrived and although there are not many news, they are important. They modify the user experience a bit and change a few things. I have already told you about Siri and now I would like to do it about iCloud. I am a user of this service and I pay my monthly fee for extra storage, but there is a new function that I advise you not to use if you are not going to use it for real or you do not have more than 50Gb on this platform. The function is as follows: Synchronization of the desktop with the cloud.

iCloud will saturate your desktop

It was one of the few news that interested me, and that is that I work directly on my iPad Air 2. Having the same thing on my iPad as on my Mac desktop could be useful, but… the same thing took up too much space on my account. iCloud. I thought that I would not sync everything I have on the desktop, but just a few things. Illusive it was. This was a very good plan to saturate our cloud and get us to buy more storage, much more. Sure, seen like this it is normal that they will launch the 2Tb storage plan.

When updating the iMac it asked me if I want to activate it or not. He told me how busy I would be. Nothing more and nothing less than almost 60Gb, much more than what I have contracted. I have given that no, that I don't want to sync not only to not saturate my cloud, but for another cause. I have sent the large files to Documents so as not to occupy space on the desktop, but I will not synchronize it either later because it will be uploading and downloading files continuously and it is not something that I will use. I only have one iMac with my account and on the iPad I don't need those files.

Who is going to give it real use and has storage to use it, I personally and for the moment I will not. That was my advice. Each one owns their computer and its storage. I recognize that it is a good function and I like it, but it is not for me.

And you, are you going to use it?

I have been using an equivalent function for a long time, but with OneDrive. I have my documents, videos, and photos on OneDrive, and I've created a 'simlink' for each one in my 'Documents' folder, so they don't seem to have switched places. I find that -for me- it is an essential function to have my documents synchronized between all my devices. The only thing is that in many cases you will have to pay for storage space. In my case, my Office 365 subscription includes 1TB. from OneDrive.

    Hey.
Unfortunately I ignored you and bought 1 TB to synchronize desktop and documents.
My surprise is that I am not interested now that I have done it because I have more than 200 GB on the desktop and it has been uploading things to iCloud Drive for days, slowing down my computer a lot.
Another surprise is that if I remove high from iCloud so that it does not occupy so much, it is directly deleted from my computer!
Is there a function to select only the part of the Desktop that I am interested in uploading without having to upload everything?
    Regards,

Document synchronization is interesting, because before in my iCloud Drive I had a folder called Documents, now I don't have it and everything is in its place ... but it should be selective, since many "Documents" folders belong to applications that maybe I have it on the iMac and not on the MacBook Pro, so I don't want it taking space from my iCloud plan. And I don't like the desktop, it is true that my desktop is always empty, but it is usually the place for data exchange, from a pen or a hard drive to the computer and vice versa. Sometimes they are files that begin to be uploaded to iCloud and maybe they weigh 50 or 60Gb, and many times they are only a few seconds on the desktop -.- «.

Anyway, for € 1 a month having 50Gb is very affordable
