How to manage macOS login password prompts

macOS-High-Sierra-1

When we create a user account in macOS, the system asks us to enter the password twice and finally asks us to enter instructions for, that in case of forgetting it, indicate us something that makes us remember it.

This for some users can be a lifesaver, but for others it is a way to have their Mac's security in question. That is why I have decided to explain to you how to manage this macOS way of working.

If you want to manage and deactivate the password indications, we must enter the user management of the system, for which we must follow the following steps:

  • We open System Preferences and Access the Control Panel> Users and Groups
  • Click on the padlock on the lower left and enter the administrator password
  • Now you must click Startup options
  • We deactivate the box Show password hints

What we achieve with what we have explained so far is that the system realizes that when we put one wrong more than three times password the password prompt will disappear, giving you an extra layer of security. So far everything is very simple, but if you want to go a little further, you can do all of this using a command for Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.loginwindow RetriesUntilHint -int 0

So if you are a person who always takes all the measures that exist in terms of security possibilities in the system and you are sure that you will not forget the administrator password, you can try what in this article I have shown you.

If, on the other hand, you tend to forget your passwords, avoid a bad drink and leave the password prompts activated so that macOS can help you.
