Working with multiple windows open is routine for most users of any computer and any operating system. OS X El Capitan includes some of the most characteristic features of the Mac operating system for years, and some newly incorporated ones inherited from the idea of multitasking of the iPad with iOS 9. But we also have alternatives offered by third-party applications available in the Mac App Store, and in particular we have selected Magnet because it is an application with a very reasonable price (€ 0,99) and very versatile. We show you below how you can manage your windows using the native functions of OS X El Capitan and the options that Magnet offers us.
Mission Control is a native OS X utility that allows us to quickly distribute windows on different desktops, create full screen desktops with a single window or even create split screen directly, as well as go back to the initial situation with a single click. Knowing all these possibilities well can make our routine tasks much easier, and as you can see in the video, they are not complicated tasks at all but quite the opposite.. In a couple of clicks you can have two windows open sharing the screen without having to manually resize until you get it.
If this is not enough, you can try Magnet, an application available on the Mac App Store that offers you functionality very similar to Windows., allowing you to drag the windows to the ends of the screen so that they are automatically resized and adjusted. So, for example, if you drag the window to the right edge of the screen it will adjust to occupy only the right half of the desktop, and if you drag it to the top, it will only occupy the top half of the screen. It is a quick way to be able to distribute the windows throughout the desktop of your Mac in order to work comfortably.
Both options are fully compatible and complementary, being able to use on each occasion the one that best suits what you need at that time. We will see what surprises the next version of OS X brings us in this regard.
In terms of paying, I think better touch tool is a better option, it has exactly the same functionality, of dragging the windows to position them to the sides, corners, full screen, both with gestures and keyboard shortcuts, but also, it has a lot of more options to add all kinds of shortcuts to trackpad / magic mouse or keyboard.
