Mute all Safari tabs in OS X El Capitan

Currently we cannot imagine a browser without the possibility of tabbed management of the different web pages, however, not many of us are used to using functions beyond opening or closing new tabs. Now the new version of Safari in OS X El Capitan beta you have the ability to mute the tabs although unfortunately it is not a new way.

Since it has been implemented by other browsers before, although on the good side, we can have this feature added without losing one of the functions that I use the most in Safari, multi-touch gestures.

This option, although a priori it seems little useful, is actually a great addition, that is, now when we are browsing and we are consulting important information or playing in the browser we will not have to bear the sound of the annoying ads or silence that tab that does not stop reloading advertising, which also integrates sound.

Specifically, the options that we are given are the following:

  • Mute or activate all tabs at once: Assuming that there are several tabs that emit sound at the same time and we cannot locate which one, you can quickly mute all the tabs by clicking on the speaker icon located in the address bar. Of course, if you are in a tab that is playing a sound and you click on the speaker icon in the address bar, it will only do so to mute or activate the sound associated with that particular tab. For this reason, you will have to select a tab in which no sound is playing.
  • Individual tabs (mute or play): It can Mute tabs individually simply by clicking the speaker icon on the tab itself. Likewise such and cAs noted above, you can also click the speaker button in the address bar, if you are in a tab where audio is playing.
  • Mute or activate all other tabs except where you are: It is achieved by right clicking on the speaker icon of a specific tab, this will activate / deactivate the sound of all the others except the one you are in. You can also use the Alt + Click combination on the speaker icon of the tab we are in.

As you can see, the ability to mute tabs in the Safari version of OS X El Capitan it's a little deeper than it seems a priori.
