New legal mess at Apple: Spotify accuses them of abuse of power

Apple vs. Spotify

We know that due to the monopoly status of industries such as Apple or Google, Companies in the sector of a more modest size can sometimes be harmed by large corporations. In a letter sent to Brussels, Spotify has formally complained to the Commission of the European Union of this abuse of power that companies like Apple or Google exercise over other companies in the sector.

Although it is not an isolated accusation by Spotify, since the letter is signed by several other companies, such as Deezer or Rocket Internet, the music reproduction company is the best known among them all. The report, brought to light by the Financial Times, reveals the need for specific rules that "regulate the interactions between the different players in the game."

The letter sent is a claim for some type of regulation in this regard, to avoid this abuse of power and unfair competition. The complaint goes generally against any operating system development company and search engines, as well as application markets (mostly Apple and Google, due to this definition).

Apple vs. Spotify

Apparently the European Union is already thinking about a new regulation that allows equal competition between large and small companies. But it does not seem that this problem will have an easy ending. The differences between Spotify and Apple are visible long before Apple even released Apple Music, just over a year ago.

As we already know, this type of legal problem at Apple is something we are used to. We will see if finally Spotify, Deezer and other companies get a regulation before their demands to monopolies like those previously mentioned.
