OWC Introduces New PCIe SSDs for Late 2013 onwards MacBooks

MacBook Pro-OWC-SSD-0

About us Other World Computing (OWC) announced Tuesday new flash storage options for MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with Retina displays from late 2013 onwards. This new series of SSDs have been dubbed Aura, and they come in 480GB and 1TB capacities. They are even compatible with certain computers that make use of the PCIe connection as a port for storage.

This is the first time it is launched an internal storage option for these teams, multiplying its capacity up to 8 times, depending on the option that we choose in the beginning and that will avoid that we have to constantly do without an external hard disk, although logically the price of these new units is much more expensive.

The units are specially designed to be used on Mac so it will not be necessary to activate no program that enables TRIM, and even if we have a degradation problem, it will be covered by the three-year warranty that OWC offers us.

  • Some of the features of these SSDs that they advertise on their website include:
  • The Aura series makes use of the highest quality memory for incredible performance and reliability.
  • Three-level error correction with low-density parity checks provides significantly better reliability and protection of your data even in RAID configurations
  • Updating data at the Cell level using specific processes rewrites data blocks as necessary, which improves data integrity and extends the life of the unit.
  • It makes use of Globlar-wear leveling, an algorithm that helps evenly distribute data across the cells of the SSD, extending the life of the drive.

All OWC expansion kits includen all tools you need to upgrade your storage, so you never have to purchase anything apart. Unfortunately these drives are not compatible with the 12 ″ MacBook Retina.

Prices are as follows:

Upgrade kit with all the tools and the Envoy Pro case (to leave your old SSD as an external disk):

  • 480 Gb: $ 449.99
  • 1TB: $ 719.99

If we only opt for the SSD drive, with nothing else:

  • 480Gb: $ 379.99
  • 1TB: $ 649.99

Hello! I wanted to ask you if there is a ssd for a MacBook Pro from early 2011. Is it worth it? Since I updated it to El Capitán it has been very slow but I don't know if it is worth changing the album. Could you guide me? thanks and greetings !!!

Of course it is worth it, the move from HDD to SSD is very important in terms of access speed and read / write. You can take a look at this SSD: http://www.macnificos.com/product.aspx?p=9020.
I also leave you a link to a video so you can see the difference in speed and how to change it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFY2FZ59a7A

Thank you very much Miguel Ángel !!!!!! I think I'm going to take the step, yes !, to see if the performance of my MacBook improves, because it really is very slow with El Capitan ... But I don't dare to change it myself, should I go to an Apple store to get it? will they change?
Thank you always for all your help !!!

Oh! Sorry one last question !!! If I change the disk that the MacBookPro has for a 512 Gb SSD will I have problems or will it work the same? I mean if, having more storage capacity, that will slow down the operation.
Sorry for so many questions and thank you very much again !!!!
