We were waiting for the guys at iFixit to see the inside of the new 27-inch iMac but it was the OWC guys who showed us. Some news that we had already talked about through this medium is confirmed. Base models cannot upgrade and expand storage memory due to a that is soldered to the logic board. But there are other news although not too significant.
The interior novelties existing in the 27-inch iMac presented this week are very few. In fact the most important one has already been revealed. The inability for the user to expand the storage capacity of the computer. It is also confirmed that there is a possibility that if we choose the models with more capacity, yes we can expand it ourselves.
In the following video we can see the interior of the iMac and how it can be seen that the memory is attached to the board. That also there are some welding points The only reason for them to be there, from the looks of it, is that on models with the 4-terabyte and 8-terabyte flash storage options they are installed in a slot, which can be placed in that position.
Another of the few novelties, if not the other novelty detected is that there is an additional microphone connected to the box. On the other hand, removing the heatsink reveals that Apple opted for a plugged-in processor instead of a soldered-on version. Which could potentially lead to a future upgrade option. The memory is also included in slots making it accessible and expandable by the user.
As for the screen: its removal is similar to previous models, although with an additional cable to separateas the camera is now part of the display assembly.
