Coda 2.5 will not be available on the Mac App Store

On Wednesday the developer Panic announced that Tail, your all-in-one web editor and one of the best for Mac, it will no longer be available in the App Store when its next version arrives. The reason for this controversial decision is found in the new security policies that Apple has introduced in its application store with respect to developers, that is, the people of Panic affirm that at this moment it is extremely difficult to create the program within the framework of sandboxing imposed by Apple.

For those of you who do not know this "security" technique, it is a process isolation, that is, a mechanism implemented by various applications to run applications and programs safely and thus be able to isolate them from the rest of the system within a kind of virtual container from which to control the different resources requested by said application (memory, disk space, necessary privileges…). This exhaustive control to which the process is subjected serves to discern if the code to be executed is malicious or not, since, as a general rule, any type of access to input devices or inspection of the host system will be restricted.

And now the obvious question is ... If I already bought Coda previously in the Mac App Store?what happens now? According to the folks at Panic, by the time Coda 2.5 is released:

You just have to download Coda 2.5 directly from our website. It will locate your installed copy from Mac App Store, and it will be unlocked. That is all. The update is carried out without any additional cost.

Panic has taken this step despite the fact that they had quite an affinity with Apple on Software publishing issues, but it seems that ultimately it has not been enough. They say that Apple invested a great deal of energy and time helping us with ideas, workarounds, and temporary waivers that we might be able to use to avoid some of the problems. However, it did not give the expected result, so the decision to remove the application from the store seems firm.

Hopefully Apple will "loosen" its policies on some "well known" apps a bit to prevent many of those reputable apps from leaving its Store.
