If you are a Parallels Desktop 9 user, you have an update pending for this great tool that allows us to use Windows and Mac OS X programs simultaneously on our Mac without restarting. The new version of Parallels fixes a bug that some users were reporting that caused a black screen in versions of OS X 10.9 Mavericks, OS X 10.9.3 Mavericks and OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks. But in addition to this solution to the black screen problem, this new version of the popular software allows us use it in the new version of Apple's operating system OS X 10.10 Yosemite without the ability to create a virtual machine.
Parallels continues to improve with each of its updates and a new version of this software is already in the works for when the new OS X Yosemite is available. There are many users who need Parallels for their daily work due to incompatibility of some software with the Mac or because they simply want to have a version of Windows on the Mac.
The minimum requirements to use Parallels are:
- Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon processor. No Core Solo and Core Duo processors are supported
- 2 GB of RAM minimum. In the case of running Windows 7 in a virtual machine or if the host OS is Lion, it is recommended to have 4 GB of memory
- Approximately 700 MB of disk space on the startup volume (Macintosh HD) for Parallels Desktop installation
- Approximately 15 GB of disk space for each virtual machine
The new version of Parallels has been available for a few days and is obviously free for all those who already have the previous version installed.
