Performance improvements for Lightroom Classic 7.2 coming soon

The next Lightroom update, known since October as Classic, will reach version 7.2. This new version will focus on the optimization of the application in general. Even so, this software has a lot of room for improvement in this highly competitive market, despite the growth experienced in recent years.

The developers have worked with Intel in recent weeks, with the intention of debugging each of the processes of the application and that it is fully optimized. Where they have detected slowdown in processes, it is on Mac with less than 12 GB of RAM, that is, the vast majority.

Therefore, any Mac will benefit from the new update, in the most repetitive tasks. Specifically, you should find an improvement in the following processes:

  • Content import.
  • Preview option.
  • Magnifying view.
  • Rendering changes in the Development module.
  • HDR fusion and panorama.
  • Export.

The tests carried out to assess this improvement have used a 10-core iMac Pro and 16GB of RAM. The measurements have consisted of the following:

  • JPEG export: the process has been done using 29% less time.
  • DNG export: in this case, the improvement reaches 44% in version 7.2, compared to 7.1

Other users have wanted to try the improvements on inferior machines. In this case, with a 13 2016-inch MacBook Pro with dual-core Core i7 and 16GB RAM, overall gain is 11%. They indicated Similar results on a 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2015, running Core i7. However, in this last equipment, surprisingly, imports in RAW format from a Fujifilm camera, is improved by up to 80%

The Lightroom Classic 7 version is only available with the Creative Cloud subscription. Subscribing costs us € 11,99 / month. We can test it and unsubscribe when we see fit. The version without subscription ended in December 2017. It is possible to acquire it, but we must remember that Adobe has stopped supporting this version 6.

Thanks José for the contribution and sorry for the mistake. We try to get the job done as professionally as possible, but sometimes mistakes are made.

There is no reason to apologize
By the way: "we must remember that Adobe (has) left"
You only have this to change

      All the best
