The guys at Pixelmator have just released a new update reaching version 3.7.1, a version with which they want to continue being an alternative to traditional Photoshop users, since it offers us the same main functions that we can find in the excellent Adobe photo editor.
Apple introduced support for HEIF last year, an image compression format that allows us to maintain the quality of the images at all times and is compatible with both iOS and macOS High Sierra, but one of the main image editors, Pixelmator, still did not allow us to take advantage of this format compression when exporting content.
Thanks to the support that Pixelmator offers us with this new update with support to export content in HEIF format, we can reduce our favorite photographs to a little more than half before sharing them or storing them directly locally on an external hard drive, which will allow us store twice as many images in the same space.
Another novelty is the vignette effect, an improved effect that allows us to fade the edges of the photographs in a very professional and artistic way. This update has solved several performance and operation problems that the application offered us when performing some tasks, such as when zooming in on some images or when importing brushes, gradients or layers that caused the application to close unexpectedly, a closure that we could blame on our copy of macOS, without actually being true.
Pixelmator has a price in the Mac App Store of 32,99 euros, a price that at first may seem a bit high, but until you try it, you do not see how it is one of the best alternatives currently available on the market to the all-powerful Photshop, at least for users with basic needs.
