Plex launches "Plex Cloud" that allows remote access from anywhere

Until now, one of the biggest drawbacks of Plex was that, necessarily, the computer had to act as a local server, so it had to be turned on whenever we wanted to see a movie, series or other content that we had saved.

Plex has announced the launch of the new service "Plex Cloud", which is designed to allow users of the Plex service to store their audiovisual content in the cloud so that it is accessible from anywhere, without the need to configure or use a local server.

With Plex Cloud you can access your content from anywhere, upon payment

The popular service Plex has announced the debut of PlexCloud, a new option that puts an end to one of its biggest drawbacks. With this feature, users will be able to access their programs, series, movies, music, etc., from anywhere and at any time, something that until now was impossible.

Amazon Drive allows users to create an "always-on" Plex Media Server that You can stream any type of multimedia content to any device that has the Plex app installed in 60 seconds or less. The new system works in the same way as a local server: multimedia content is organized through the Plex application so that access to TV shows, movies, music, images and more is just as fast, visual and intuitive

To use Plex Cloud, Plex customers will need to subscribe to Amazon Drive, which offers unlimited storage in the Amazon cloud. Amazon Drive is priced at $ 60 per year and will allow Plex users to store as many files as they want with no size limits.

The service also requires a subscription to Plex Pass, which costs 4.99 euros / dollars per month, or 39,99 per year, or 149,99 for a pass that never expires, for life.

At the present time, the service Plex Cloud is available to Plex Pass customers who sign up for beta testing of the feature. The invitations to the new service are very limited.

About Plex

For all those who still do not know Plex, it is a service that allows users to access their own multimedia content (music, images, video files) stored on the hard drive of their computer or on an external hard drive through of the Plex applications, available for both iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and fourth generation Apple TV.

The service enjoys a very simple and efficient interface and operation. All you have to do is configure your computer as a local server, choose the location where your assets are located and in a few minutes a whole series of libraries will be created (for example, movies, music, television series, etc.) that you can access through of the application from the aforementioned devices.

In addition, synchronize all the information so you can enjoy the cover of a movie and know all its technical data, plot and others. It includes some details that are very attractive, such as the soundtrack playing in the background when you are in the tab of a movie or series.

Despite its many features and quality, Plex has some drawbacks that, personally, made me finally opt for another alternative, Infuse.

The fact having to configure the computer as a local server forces you to always have it on. This, when you use a network hard drive like a Time Capsule, is a hassle. With Infuse you can turn off your computer and you will have access to your content anyway.

On the other hand, the cost. If you want to enjoy a complete experience in Plex, you must subscribe to Plex Pass, with the prices indicated above, which is still another payment to view content that is already yours. Infuse Pro requires a single payment of € 9,99, and enjoy forever.

With the new Plex Cloud service, now take advantage. It is no longer necessary to be under the same WiFi network to watch your movies and series however, the cost is too high: subscription to Amazon Drive + Plex Pass, which brings us to about ten dollars / euros per month for accessing content that the service does not provide you as they are previously yours.

The decision, once again, is in the hands of the user.
