Possible class action lawsuit against Apple in the case of MacBook Pro 2011 with graphics failures

macbook-pro-2011

At the beginning of this year news came directly related to the MacBook Pro 2011 and a failure in its GPU that caused those affected a graphic failure from time to time on their machine. Apple even changed some of these computers to several of those affected, but little by little more users came out with the same problem and now this case could be brought to justice if Apple doesn't make a move sooner.

The fact is that a Washington law firm, Whitfield Bryson & Mason LLP, is studying the case to carry out a class action lawsuit against Apple after gathering information about the case among the group of Facebook created by those affected themselves and which has more than 2.300 members, and the website to collect signatures change.org which already exceeds 10.923 signatures.

Notably Apple does not usually fail in cases like this, that is, when a user has a problem of any kind on their Mac or iOS device, Apple responds quickly to fix the failure. On some occasions, if it is a problem recognized by the company, they respond with a replacement program like the one seen in the MacBook Air 2013 or newer with the iPhone 5 charger, but in the case of this MacBook Pro 2011 they still do not respond.

These affected computers are from 2011 and have an integrated Intel graphics in conjunction with a discrete AMD graphics of different models depending on the configuration. Some users who have already paid for the repair of their machines affected with the graphical failure (even blog readers how Pablo) they are recommended to save the repair invoice in case Apple creates the replacement program, they will return the full amount of it.

Hopefully Apple will respond as usual and launch this program to fix the failure of some of these machines.

Sounds very good to me, I keep reading comments about people with that bug and Apple does not comment. You buy yourself a mac to prevent these things from happening. I have a Late 2011 and although it mainly occurs in the Early ones I am trembling with fear.

I tell you that I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011, and it just happened to me a few weeks ago.
Right now I have the Mac unusable, it stays on the apple symbol (it looks pixelated) and it doesn't go from there.
I bought it in March 2012 and well, I no longer have a warranty and from what they told me the repair will cost me about $ 1400 because the plate has to be changed.

I have a Late '11 MBP and every time the graphics fails, I remove the bottom cover, block the fans with anything, turn it on and wait until it shuts down due to overheating of the CPU. I unlock the fans and close it again.
When you turn it on again it works perfectly. It is recommended to use gfxCardStatus and select the integrated one so that it lasts longer without causing problems.
I hope that the demand continues and apple offers a solution for all of us who have this problem.
    regards

I lost the graphic 3 months after buying it in 2011, and 2 years after repairing it under warranty it has broken again.
APPLE scams me by saying that they can't do anything and that if I spend € 500 to fix it, they don't guarantee it won't break a third time. A real theft of a brand that boasts prestige and shows terrible customer service.

I have a Mac Book Early 17 ″ which, being under warranty, already had to change the HD and the cable because it had a bad connection or something like that and the two fans due to excess noise. Shortly after the end of the guarantee, the graph was screwed up and I had to pay € 600, after 7 months it was screwed up again, and after 3 months again, it seems to be a joke, but no. I started with the same if you take or split screen in two or vertical stripes, blue screen ... etc, and culminating by not starting. We are supposed to invest a lot of money in equipment that is supposed to be of quality and prepared to work with design programs, which are what I use and need to work. I am very indignant, what do I do when it breaks again and the warranty of the 1st repair no longer covers me? Because it is not fair that after changing the last plate I do not have more guarantee of that piece, above that it is evident that they are in good condition. You have to sign the petition for Apple to apply that replacement program that it has already had to do with other computers. I will not trust this brand again. Other non-Apple computers have not given me any problems.

So the free tech service also includes graphics card repairs? They told me at Apple that it had broken down, and that it would cost me between 500 and 600 euros to fix it.

I say this in reference to the repair program that Apple has made available to users: http://www.apple.com/es/support/macbookpro-videoissues/
