We are facing the imminent launch of OS X 10.10 Yosemite and many of us are clear that we are going to install the new version of OS X on our Mac. Something we have to remember is that Apple launches its OS X for free from the current OS X Mavericks and being free millions of people want to install it when it is officially launched, so on the same day of launch be patient to install the new OS X or wait a few hours so that you do not find the servers saturated and that the download takes longer than necessary.
That said, we can only comment that improvements in terms of speed, better resource management, operating system design and continuity with iOS devices are some of the strengths of this new OS X 10.10, for all this from here we recommend its installation. If you also have one or more iOS devices (iPhone, iPad), the possibilities of getting more out of our daily productivity are added.
Initially, all Macs that support Mavericks will be able to install Yosemite so go ahead with them. We go with what interests, How do I prepare my Mac to install OS X Yosemite? The answer to the question can be very long, but we are going to give the answer through a few simple steps that we think are necessary.
Eliminate the applications and programs that we do not use
This is for me the 'most important step' when I am going to install a new operating system on my Mac. Many of the programs or applications that we download and have installed on our Mac do not even use them, so what better time to do a little cleaning and save space on our Mac.
Disk Permission Repair
Another of the steps that many of us overlook in addition to the previous one and that is also important to carry out before installing a new OS X. Although it is true that I recommend doing this every so often to keep the Hard Drive in good condition, when We are going to install a new operating system, it is highly recommended before carrying out this simple action from Disk Utility, we can even automate this task. Once this task is done we can 'empty the trash' to have everything perfect and well organized on the desktop.
Make a backup
This is a step that many users say is not necessary since Mac is really safe and does not lose information when OS X is updated, but we have to be clear that when we update the operating system we are somehow 'resetting' our machine. While it is true that there are usually no problems of document loss, it is always better to have a backup in our Time Machine of everything that is most important.
There is the option to automate the backups from the Time Machine tool itself, which makes the task easier, but before updating it is advisable to do this backup manually. What I advise is to have at least another 'backup' for all those really important documents, either on an external hard drive or similar to avoid problems.
Check the applications we use
Before launching to update without further ado, check that all the programs and applications you need are supported by OS X Yosemite 10.10. It is true that now it does not happen as much as before, but imagine that you update your OS X and then you cannot use any application or tool for your daily work.
Enjoy the new OS X Yosemite With its new design, in addition to the improvements implemented by Apple is what remains to be done after the installation. We hope that Apple does not delay the launch and we have the possibility of installing it next Thursday, October 16, which is the day of the keynote, although we will surely have to be patient due to the volume of downloads at the same time.
Very good advice, you are in everything !!!
Thanks for the info
You want to install it, there is no lack of good information
I am using the Beta versions and they work great, fast, comfortable, modern. A jewel
The only problem I've had has been every time I use finder, the size that I give it by default is lost, but if I force its restart it is corrected.
Are you doing a clean installation or the current one? Because I am considering making it clean, but I don't have a lot of time in my day. So, it had occurred to me, I don't know if it will be crazy, but create a partition to install Yosemite. Then gradually install applications and finally delete the installation of Mavericks (the latter I do not know if it could have been the first) What do you think?
CONGRATULATIONS on the article.
Good Javier, in my case I have a partition for the beta and when the final version comes out I will delete it. Yosemite will install it on top of where Mavericks is now.
If you can install Yosemite on a partition, even on an external hard drive (using both OS X at the same time) but it is advisable to do it on the main volume and forget about the previous one.

I have the beta installed, but when I do it, I cannot install the multifunction driver
Good Juan Manuel,
What model is the multifunction?
Good morning, the model is CANON MF 4350D.
Greetings.
It does not appear in the list of compatible with OS X Software, anyway you read this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3147?viewlocale=es_ES
to see if you solve it.
It is also possible that being a beta of Yosmeite fails. Did it work for you before?
Greetings Juan Manuel
If it worked perfectly with the Mavericks version, the problem I had when installing the beta.
I have downloaded the drivers for Mavericks again and it has been installed, I did this a long time ago and it did not work, today I have updated with the latest beta of Yosemite, may it have something to do with it?
We are glad that it already works for you!
regards
Thanks for your interest.
Best regards.
. How about I backup to a partition on the same disk?
Hi all. I would like to do a clean installation, I already have a copy of everything and I would like to make it very clean. When it is ready the new OS will allow you to choose if you want a clean installation or update the system? or will we have to use other methods to do a clean installation? Thank you!
Hi TJ, you always have the option to perform a clean update but if it is not because you have bugs in the current version or because you come from very old OS X, the best and simplest thing is to update without formatting.

Thanks Jordi!

hello I have several original software installed, when updating to Yosemite will I lose my information? please help
Good morning ... I have a question. Those of us who have the latest public beta version (built A488) do not get the update directly because it indicates that we already have version 10,10 installed and then we must search the App Store applications to download and install it. In this sense my question is…. I win or lose something if I update the latest version of the public beta to the one officially released on October 16…. For example the built of the last public beta is A388…. What is the built of the official?
Good morning I do not have Maverick but OS X 10.8.5 can I install Yosemite? Thank you
Hello, I need to know if I update to Yosemite on top of Mavericks 10.9.5, are the files, photos, programs, etc. preserved? ? or I start from scratch when updating I hope your answer thanks!
All your files are updated and preserved, except for a small program, that is, 99% of the programs. But do a backup first.
Hi Dante, you can install Yosemite.

Hi, I have a question. I bought Mac Book Pro Retina (OS X Yosemite) today. I have a Mac Book Pro 10.8.5
1) How do I migrate everything from the old to the new? They made me buy a double Thunderbolt cable at Apple, I connect the two computers, but I can't do the migration.
2) Is it because the old woman has Lion ???
3) What should I do ???
Thank you!
Alvaro
In theory, the OS X you have has nothing to do with it. Let's see if I take some time out today and do a little tutorial on transferring data from one Mac to another.
