Pro Display XDR works with iMac Pro but not at full performance

The Pro Display XDR that Apple introduced along with the Mac Pro is just as advanced as the computer itself. It is a screen that gets along very well with the Apple computer, even at the price. We already saw how adding this to the most expensive configuration, we went over € 70.000, especially for its luxury base. But going back to what is really important, the monitor also works with the iMac Pro, but not at full performance.

Pro Display XDR is the first 6-inch Retina 32K display ever. Up to 1.600 nits of brightness. 1.000.000: 1 contrast and super wide viewing angle. With a superb dynamic range. You will want to enjoy all its functionalities, something that will not happen if you use it with the iMac Pro.

Pro Display XDR works "only" at 5k with iMac Pro

Right now you can buy now through the web, the Display Pro XDR at a price of € 5.499 - € 6.499 (if you add the nanotextured glass). At first may be made by each Mac model is supported if it has Thunderbolt 3 ports and is paired with Blackmagic eGPU or Blackmagic eGPU Pro. However, this screen has been tested with the iMac Pro from 2017 without eGPU and has been shown to be unable to fully achieve 6K resolution. At most it reaches "only" 5K. It may not be the best news in the world, however this means that the Display Pro XDR can be used with other Mac configurations, although not in the highest resolution available.

Taking into account that the ability of the human eye to distinguish between 5k and 6k is almost negligible and depends on factors such as viewing distance and screen size, I do not think that we should cry out in the sky for this disappointment. The other way around, being Apple, We should be grateful that the screen works on computers prior to the 2019 Mac Pro.
