Pro Display XDR works with iPad Pro and MacBook Pro 12 ″

Apple Pro Display XDR Monitor

The arrival of the Mac Pro on the market has also brought the sale of the Pro Display XDR, an impressive screen that is not only compatible with Apple's new desktop computer. The American company has on its official page, the compatibility with this screen.  However, there are models that also work with it and do not appear.

Others, such as the iMac Pro, works but with some limitations, as we already told you a few days ago. But there are other devices, which a priori would not have to work well with the screen and which are nevertheless very good companions. For example the iPad Pro and the 12-inch MacBook Pro.

iPad Pro yes and without limitations. 12 »MacBook Pro yes, but with limitations

While some devices work with limitations with the Pro Display XDR screen, others, however, work perfectly. We have in the example that follows, the evident proof of this. Federico Viticci, founder of MacStories, has tested the compatibility of this excellent and very expensive display with devices such as the iPad Pro and 12-inch MacBook Pro. With different results, yes.

They are devices that do not appear on the list that Apple has seen fit to launch with the compatible models. To know:

  • Mac Pro (2019) with MPX Module GPUs
  • 15 2018-inch MacBook Pro
  • 16 2019-inch MacBook Pro
  • 21.5-inch iMac from 2019
  • 27 2019-inch iMac
  • Any Mac model with Thunderbolt 3, Blackmagic eGPU, or Blackmagic eGPU Pro
  • All this with macOS Catalina 10.15.2 or later

Regarding iPad Pro, we leave you below the video in which it is shown how it works without problems. Also in the configuration options, the Pro Display XDR does appear. So it is very good news for those who do not part with the iPad.

With the 12-inch MacBook Pro, Also works, even at 5K, which iMac Pro from 2017 did not. Of course, we do not believe that at such a high configuration, the computer can perform at its best for too long.
