Provenance, the first emulator for the new Apple TV

Provenance Apple TV

El new Apple TV it is attracting the eyes of many users for the simple reason that they will be able to play on it. In fact, this generation of Apple TV will be heavily focused on gaming (App Store), and it even comes equipped with a Wii-inspired controller with TouchPad and Siri.

Some developers are already rubbing their hands with an Apple TV as a gaming hub. In fact, one of these developers has already used an Apple TV simulator, and it is now available to run an emulator. This emulator allows you to play old school games, like the classic Golden Ax, Super Mario, etc.

The emulator we are talking about is called Origin and Developer is called James addyman, and has made Provenance a multi-emulator capable of emulating games from a wide variety of classic video consoles. Provenance has already been running on the Apple TV simulator which is inside the latest version of Xcode.

As you can see from this tweet, it only took James Addyman 3 hours to develop Provenance and make it work in the simulator of the new Apple TV.

Provenance for example will allow users to emulate games from the following classic platforms:

  • Sega genesis
  • Game Gear / Master System
  • Sega CD
  • SNES
  • NES
  • GB / GBC
  • G

The application is open source and can be downloaded at GitHub. The fact that Xcode 7 allows users to load applications from iOS devices, may make it possible to do the same on the Apple TV y tvOS, but nothing is guaranteed at this point.
