With the situation that is occurring around the world with the quarantine measures imposed to avoid a even more serious and numerous pandemic, teleworking is the order of the day and video calls occur regularly. A person can receive a good number of them at the end of the day (the meetings he had in normal situations) and in many of those live calls, tasks are established.
If you do not want to lose detail of the conversations held, a good idea is record these video calls. Then you can calmly reproduce them and be more productive.
FaceTime, Skype, and many other video calling applications through the Mac. In all of them you can record what you see and hear.
FaceTime
Apple's own application is very appropriate to carry out in these days of quarantine, work and personal video calls. Since we cannot see each other in person, we see each other in the distance. We can record what is seen and heard through this application. Not very intuitive, but here we explain it to you.
You will need to QuickTime, but you must prepare the application so that everything turns out well and smoothly. To do this, you must perform the following steps:
- Opens QuickTime on your Mac.
- Click on Archive in the menu bar.
- Select New screen recording.
- In the pop-up box at the bottom, next to the button Engrave, touch the button Options.
- Choose the device you are using in Microphone.
- In Options, choose the place where you want to save the recording to be made.
To record the video call via FaceTime:
- Opens FaceTime on your Mac.
- Click the button Record en QuickTime.
- Touch on the screen if you want to record the entire screen or touch the FaceTime window to record only FaceTime.
- Start your FaceTime call.
However. Yes you receive the call on your iPhone or iPad, you can also record that conversation as follows. The trick here is that you have to select "New movie recording":
Choose New recording and then choose your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
- Opens QuickTime on your Mac.
- Click on Archive in the menu bar.
- Select New movie recording
- Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac
- Turn off your Mac speakers.
- Unlock your iPhone or iPad, if it is locked.
- On your Mac, tap the arrow next to the red Quicktime record button
- Choose your device between the settings Of camera y Microphone.
- Slide the QuickTime volume slider all the way to capture the sound.
- Press the red Quicktime record button to start recording before make or accept a call.
- To save and rename it, press File and select Save
Skype or Whatsapp
If Skype is what you use regularly for your video calls, the way to record the conferences is easier than from FaceTime. Follow these steps:
- Open the application Skype or Whatsapp on your Mac.
- Find the contact you plan to video chat with.
- Start the Skype video call.
- During the call, touch the menu marked by four dots.
- Select Start recording.
- A banner will appear letting all participants know that you are recording.
When it comes to saving, Skype or Whatsapp will automatically post the recording in the chat where it will be available for 30 days. During this time, you can save the recording directly to your Mac. All you have to do is select more options and choose to save or save as. It depends on whether you want to save the video in the downloads folder or choose a specific location.
There are other apps like Zoom which are also widely used in video calls. I have decided to talk about FaceTime and Skype due to the two characteristics of the analyzed applications. FaceTime for having to use QuickTime and in the second to explain how Skype handles the recordings made.
We hope that these days are as enjoyable as possible. Much encouragement.
