Screenshots in OS X without the time and date taken

These screenshots have by default some properties imposed by Apple itself, such as their location once taken, their format and the name they are given. Those things can be modified and just as We already explained to you in a previous article, the format and location is one of the first things most experienced users want to change.

Now we are going to give it a twist and we are going to tell you what to do to be able to change the file name that OS X automatically places on the screenshots. More concretely We are going to show you the steps you have to follow to remove the date and time from the name of the screenshots, which is sometimes a bit annoying.

I personally would not have any inconvenience in leaving certain screenshots with your name if it were not for the system adding the date and time at which it was taken. I find it very cumbersome leave files with such long names. That is why so that you do not continue to see those capture names so long, the steps you have to follow are the following:

  • The first thing you have to do is open the Terminal, either by invoking it from Spotlight or from the Launchpad> Others> Terminal.
  • Once the Terminal is open, you must enter the following command:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture "include-date" 0; killall SystemUIServer

Delete-capture-date

  • When you run it, you will see that the windows system will also restart. To undo the changes you must use the same command but where a "0" has been put, you change it to a "1" to activate it again.

defaults write com.apple.screencapture "include-date" 1; killall SystemUIServer

Another way to do this process without using the Terminal is by installing the Savescreenie2 application. In one of its tabs you can modify the name of the screenshots.
