Scrobbling for Mac

lastfm.jpg

And what the hell is this scrobbling thing? Scrobbling consists in that, when you are listening to music, it will be sent to a gigantic database, in order to create your musical profile.

Of course, for that you need a service. A good option is Last.fm. The matter works as follows: a user is created on the website of Last.fm, download the program that will be activated in the background while you enjoy your songs on iTunes (it can also be synchronized with the iPod) and the musical adventure in search of new melodies begins.

Everything you hear becomes part of your musical profile. Based on that and comparing your tastes with that of other users, Last.fm (using complicated algorithms) suggest artists or songs that may be to your liking. Or you can simply open the program, type in the name of an artist and instantly a list of similar artists is generated.

But that is only part of the matter. Like any social network, the interesting thing is in the interaction of the users. One can gauge one's taste with other people, run blogs, join fan groups, receive musical suggestions from other people, download independently produced tracks, write an artist's biography on the wiki or receive a list of concerts on your city, among other things.

As you can see, it is an ideal service for music lovers, those restless souls who are not satisfied with always listening to the same thing.

The program works quite well, does not consume too much memory and even has integration with Growl.

Doesn't it seem a bit dangerous to you, with all the campaigns that the authors and protection agencies continually organize against piracy, that if in the future a law against it is passed as in the United States, there is somewhere a gigantic base of data with your profiles, your ip ... where you are also associated with all those Gb's of music that you have and that surely are not legal?
