Second Celebgate Defendant Pleads Guilty

A couple of years ago the controversy arose due to the improper access of a few people to the iCloud accounts of famous people, especially from Hollywood, where they had stored a large number of photographs many of them made with very little clothing, not to say completely naked. Some of these images were published on 4chain and from there they spread throughout the internet. What at first seemed like an iCloud security problem, it was finally shown that the problem was from the people themselves who had listened to a phishing-type email in which, posing as Apple and Google, they requested iCloud passwords to verify that they were the rightful owners.

A few months ago the first of the accused pleaded guilty and entered prison. The second of the defendants Edward Majerczyk has pleaded guilty like others implicated in the 2014 scandal dubbed Celebgate. Edward acknowledged accessing celebrity accounts and stealing compromising photos. But again and like the previous defendant, Edward also claims that at no time did he steal these photographs to publish them on the internet, but that it was a third person who had not yet identified the photos on the internet.

Edward has been accusing to send an email impersonating iCloud and Gmail to access the cloud accounts of more than 300 people between November 2012 and August 2014. This incident called into question the security of this type of service, forcing both companies to add double authentication every time the user wants to access their data, a process that sends a message to the user's device with the password necessary to access once you have entered the one you usually use.
