Signal launches its encrypted messaging app for Mac

Signal is one of the encrypted messaging applications that in recent years has been gaining prominence thanks to being Edward Snowden's preferred messaging application. This messaging application has been available for some time on both the Android platform and the Apple iOS mobile platform, but We limited its use by not being multiplatform such as Telegram. But the wait is over, as this application is finally available for Apple's desktop ecosystem, in addition to Windows and Linux.

So far the only way to use Signal's encrypted messaging service was through an extension that was available through Chrome, an application that will no longer receive updates as it has launched a dedicated application for all available platforms. and currently used on the market. If we want to install and use this application, our Mac must have a version equal to or higher than OS X 10.9 installed.

The guys at Signal have thought of everything and before proceeding to delete the extension, we can import the settings and data to the extension. If we do not use it, we must perform a clean installation starting from scratch. As with Telegram, in order to install and run the desktop version, we must previously install the application on our mobile device in order to keep our messages synchronized.

Once we have installed it, we must scan the QR code that appears in the application from our smartphone, as well as the WhatsApp web messaging service, so that the app configures itself automatically and to be able to use it without having the device turned on, something that we cannot do with WhatsApp but with Telegram, an application from which WhatsApp still has a lot to learn.

The Signal messaging app for Mac not available through the Mac App Store, so we will have to visit the section of download from Signal in order to download it.
