Solution to email synchronization between iOS and OS X

I'm sure many of you have experienced the same thing as me if you have a Micosoft email account (Hotmail or Outlook): on your devices iOS the mail stays perfectly synchronized (if you read an email in your iPhone also appears as read in your iPad) however, in the app Email de Mac OS X that same email remains unread. For some time there is already a solution to this problem, and today we are telling you about it.

Keeping mail in sync on all your devices.

This timing problem is due to a simple protocol. Until last September Microsoft It only allowed mail configuration through the POP protocol but then it activated the IMAP protocol, something highly demanded by users. So so that our Hotmail or Outlook email accounts are perfectly synchronized between our Macs and our iPhone y iPad We only have to configure it under the IMAP protocol and for this we will have to follow a simple trick: enter an incorrect password the first time it requests it:

  1. En Email, we completely delete the email account that we are going to reconfigure.
  2. Select File → Add a new account → Add another account → Add a Mail account
  3. We fill in the "Name" and "Email" fields correctly and it is at this moment that we enter an incorrect password and click "Create". We will get the message «The account must be configured manually». We press «Next».
  4. In the next step we make sure that the chosen protocol is IMAP and we begin to complete the fields correctly specifying:
    • incoming mail server (on the first screen): imap-mail.outlook.com Incoming mail server

    • outgoing mail server (on the second screen): smtp-mail.outlook.com Outgoing mail server

We press «Create» and from that moment our email account will begin to be perfectly synchronized between our Mac and our iPhone and Ipad.
