Some 2011 and 2012 Macs rejuvenate with two more years of service from Apple

Every so often the list of Macs made obsolete by Apple. The frequency to renew Macs is between 5 and 7 years. Therefore, at this time computers that are between 2012 and 2011 are more than likely to appear sooner or later on the obsolete Macs list.

But this time Apple has decided to extend the technical service it can provide to some of the Macs of 2011 and 2012. This means that Apple and authorized resellers should have spare parts for the Macs in the event of a part replacement.

This information is collected by an internal Apple document to which the American media has had access MacRumors. The reasons why Apple made this decision are not known. One possibility is to update this type of equipment in future months, and therefore Apple has components in production instead of eliminating spare parts that in few occasions can be used.

What is clear is that these equipment would become obsolete at the end of August 2018, but based on the particular 2012 MacBook Air or mid-2011 iMac, obsolescence will not arrive until two years later. In an excerpt from Apple's document, there is a table detailing the new timelines before obsolescence.

In this same document, it is noted that another Mac model, the 21.5-inch iMac and the 27-inch model also prolongs its entry into obsolescence. In this case, only affects the United States and Turkey, where the legislation establishes these minimum parameters, as a guarantee for a product.

The debate is open in relation to Apple's decision to put a team on the obsolescence list. It is correct that Apple is interested in the sale of new equipment and that the rotation of our Macs occurs every few years. But on the other hand, Apple computers older than 7 years are fully operational for non-intensive use and therefore, at least Apple should offer technical service for them.
