Some Australian associations, against the Apple Store in Federation Square in Melbourne

The store that Apple intends to open with great expectations in Melbourne, has found the opposition from local associations. Well do not consider that the emblematic Yara building, located in Federatión Square, should host an Apple center, due to the call effect that will cause the visit of thousands of buyers and users.

On the one hand, the local government supports the proposal due to the economic boom that the business should bring or the knock-on effect of other businesses near the Apple store. But on the other hand, local associations are not in favor of the location of the Apple Store.

En Soy de Mac we inform you in relation to Apple's plans to build the retail store. Previously, the Yarra Building hosted different organizations or events, such as the Melbourne Festival Venue.

Since the publication of the news, different associations have mobilized against the measure adopted. These associations have the web open Stop apple, where they intend to stop the demolition of the building by Apple. Among the actions are a petition through the organization Change.org. This petition has collected more than € 50.000 signatures, according to some specialized American media. For this association:

Neither the government nor Apple has revealed how much the construction will cost, but it should be clear to everyone that the loss of this important building for the sake of corporate business is a perversion of what Federation Square and Melbourne represent.

In this same petition, the tax benefits that Apple has in Australia are discussed once again, below 2% of profits. They allege that, Although Apple contributes substantially to public coffers, it does not give it the right to take control of public spaces.

Other architectural associations, as well as the Australian Planning Institute and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, believe that the building should maintain the same current structure. As indicated:

No community consultation opportunity has taken place, such a significant development in Melbourne's most iconic public square.

Apple faces a major decision: continue defending the natural environment or decide to carry out the remodeling of an old area, highly valued by the citizens of the area.
