SONNET_THUNDERBOLT_2

Sonnet has announced the first expansion chassis for PCIe cards with Thunderbolt 2, allowing users of the late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina and newer Mac Pro to add two or three PCIe cards to their computers.

There are three chassis, one in which you can install two cards and two in which you will be able to enjoy three PCIe cards. Sonnet has called them Echo expresses III -D, Echo expresses III –R and Echo expresses SE II.

The Echo Express III -D, Echo Express III –R and Echo Express SE II feature the ultra-fast Thunderbolt 2 port, which offers twice the performance of the Thunderbolt 1 which is capable of transferring up to 10 Gb / sec, in addition to providing sufficient width bandwidth to support the high demands of PCIe cards. The new expansion chassis bracket supports all types of compatible PCIe cards, allowing the use of professional video capture, audio interfaces, 8Gb and 16Gb fiber channels, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SAS and SATA HBA and RAID controller cards with Thunderbolt enabled for iMac ®, Mac ® mini, Mac Pro ®, MacBook Air ® and MacBook Pro ® computers.

Customers who purchased the Thunderbolt 1 equipped chassis will be able to get free updates to the Thunderbolt 2 version. Thunderbolt 2 chassis are fully compatible with older Thunderbolt equipped Macs.

The desktop three-slot version is available for $ 979, the rack-mounted three-slot version for $ 1199, and the two-slot desktop version for $ 499.
