If the rumors that are circulating on the net are fulfilled after Apple with Phil Siller, as an interviewee warned that new iMac for this year are fulfilled, we will have some iMac that will be scary in terms of internal hardware. This has a double edge and it is that we are not sure that all this potential is necessary in iMac, but as the saying goes: big donkey walks or not. In this sense, what we have clear is that by the end of this year we will have new iMac and they may show us samples of it at the upcoming WWDC 2017.
Apple surprised us all by talking about the future of Macs and certainly putting pressure on themselves, even though this is unavoidable when you're working at Apple. But leaving aside the issue of pressure or the work done to date with the company's teams, now what we are all pending is the possible specifications that the new iMac will bring that Shiller himself said they would present this 2017:
- Intel Xeon E3 processors: the new iMac would mount in its most powerful model the Intel Xeon E3-1285 v6 processor together with the Intel HD Graphics P630
- 16, 32 or 64 GB of user-configurable RAM with no information on whether it will be DDR3L or DDR4
- Standard NVMe SSD (non-volatile memory express) with it will reduce latency and significantly increase the number of IOPS operations (input / output instructions per second) with capacities up to 2 TB. Current 4K and 5K iMac models can also be configured with PCIe NVMe-based SSDs or fusion drives up to 2TB
- AMD graphics to support virtual reality and professional applications. Bloomberg has already warned of this possibility of using the AMD in the most powerful Mac range. The current most powerful 27-inch iMac model uses the AMD Radeon R9 GPU
- 3 Thunderbolt 3 ports would be the last of the novelties that the next iMac would add, ports like those found in the 2016 MacBook Pro. A single cable for everything: USB, DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA
As the report shows, the new iMac will arrive in October and if these specifications are true, we would be facing real beasts, much more powerful than current models. Logically these new iMac will go up in price and in the most powerful configuration it remains to be seen if it is a Mac "affordable for the non-professional sector" since the specifications can easily be used by professionals. We will continue to see the rumors and see how they progress, this year Macs and the rest of Apple products in general promise strong emotions.
