The Swedish music service Spotify, faithful to its quarterly meeting with shareholders, has just announced the official figures for the number of users of its platform, the platform leader in the streaming music market. Once again, the number of paid subscribers has increased, as has the number of users of the free service with ads.

According to the figures presented by Spotify, as of March 31, 2020, Spotify had 130 million paying subscribers, which represents 6 million paying users more than the previous quarter. In addition to increasing the number of paid users, the number of users of the free service with ads has also increased, reaching 163 million.

If we compare these figures with those corresponding to the first quarter of 2019, we see how the number of Spotify subscribers has increased by 30 million of paying users and has gone from 123 million users of the free service with ads to 163 million in just one year, representing a growth of 31 and 32% year-on-year respectively.

Spotify claims that the current pandemic situation, consumer habits have changed of music and currently every day seems like weekends. Listening time around household activities like cooking or cleaning, spending time with family, or relaxing at home has increased significantly in recent weeks.

The company also claims that music has played a very important role in manage stress and anxiety that many people have suffered and continue to suffer in the confinement environment in which we find ourselves, which has generated an increase in searches for terms such as Chill and Instrumental.

The latest official figures from Apple's streaming music service point to June of last year, the month in which it announced that it had 60 million subscribers, all of them paid, since this service is not available for free with ads.
